The play is over and now to be re-written as I have had some interest in taking it further. So watch this space! Apart from that, it's work on a new book and work on a new play so I have turned into a typical writer - glued the the laptop and not communicating with anyone who isn't a fictional character. I have just returned from the Loire valley and Provence - great places to write. There is something about being in a beautiful setting and with a partner doing all the cooking and pouring out of wine which gets the creative juices flowing. My daughter, Jessica, has just heard that she has a place on the foundation course at Mountview (Drama School) so I'd better get writing some good parts for her!

The highlight of this month has been going to the opening night of my play, The Glenn Miller Neurosis Programme, at Barnes. The three actors (Victoria Kempton, Maggie Stride and Kirsten Parks) did a great job as did the director, Christine Lohr. Thanks have to go to some bloke at the front who laughed very loudly in all the right places which got the rest of the audience going! Another man came up to me afterwards and told me he thought it was a great play and that he should know as he was a gynaecolgist! I just hope no one noticed me laughing at my own jokes. Other than that, I have been working on my next book, Cloudbusting Day - nice to get away from that mother and daughter theme which was in my play as well as my first book. If only I'd had a son...

I'm now getting some great feedback for The Mother and Daughter Diaires so thanks to everyone for their comments - all very good so far! I have been amazed how many friends from the dim and distant past have been in touch particularly following a series of local radio interviews I did. It's amazing who was listening and I thought you all listened to radio 2! Actually I was quite taken with radio - you can turn up looking like you've been dragged through a hedge, lie about your age, and well, lie about everything really - no one can tell by the look on our face. So please ignore the bit where I said I'd been sleeping with Brad Pitt - I may have got carried away. Rehearsals are underway for The Glenn Miller Neurosis Programme and I can't wait to see what this talented theatre group make of it. I am writing another play right now but I can't tell you what it's about now - mainly because I'm not to sure myself! You can now contact me via this web page so keep that feedback coming in!

March

The Mother and Daughter Diaries is out and flying off the table at Waterstones. So now, surely, I can at last call myself a fiction writer. But hang on, I seem to be doing everything except write. If I’m not signing the stock in Colchester book shops, I’m writing a blog for Mira (check it out – it’s all about how we slowly turn into our own mothers – aggh) I’ve even spoken to book groups about being a writer, and while I had some interesting evenings out, surely I should have been chained to the laptop instead. If I’m not careful, I’ll turn into someone who talks about writing, blogs about writing, does interviews about writing but can’t find the time to actually do any. So I’m off now to finish my next book: Cloudbusting Day, and I’m not going to talk to anyone until it’s done. Although, I do have three radio interviews to do next week…
